Titan XL: a modernized silencer for the AKM chambered in 7.62×39 US (sub sonic)

The Titan XL PBS is designed specifically for the AKM and subsonic 7.62×39 US ammunition (57-N-231U).
It is a completely modernized interpretation of the Soviet PBS-1, preserving its advantages while eliminating design flaws and adding modern engineering solutions.

How does Titan XL differ from PBS-1?

Titanium housing

Minimal weight, high strength, full corrosion resistance. Ideal for the AKM both in field use and in harsh environments.

Titanium barrier between the obturator and the baffle module

Reduces suppressor wear; the obturator does not contact the baffle system.

Removable duralumin baffle module

Easy to clean and corrosion-proof.

Successfully passed CFD simulations and field testing.

Actual sound reduction: −28 dB (~98%) with 7.62×39 US ammunition.

Cerakote coating

Protection against scratches, heat and moisture.

The Titan XL PBS not only reduces the sound — it nearly eliminates the audible shot signature of the AKM when using US (subsonic) ammunition.

Mil-spec vs Commercial

The Titan XL PBS is available in two configurations:

Mil-spec (military standard)

• Supports both standard PBS-1 obturators with a metal reinforcement ring and those without it.
• Features a reinforced titanium obturator basket.

Commercial (civilian version)

• Works only with civilian rubber obturators in the 40×18 format, without a metal ring.
• The optimal choice for sporting or recreational use with AKM rifles firing 7.62 US ammunition.

Engineered for subsonic 7.62×39 US cartridges

The Titan XL design maximizes the performance of subsonic (sub-sonic) US ammunition:

• The rubber obturator traps powder gases inside the PBS body.
• Only the bullet exits the suppressor — without the noise of escaping gases.
• The only sound heard during firing is the AKM’s action cycling.

This provides exceptional concealment and one of the lowest acoustic signatures available for the AKM firing 7.62×39 US.

Improved accuracy and control

Thanks to its updated internal geometry, the Titan XL:

• reduces back-pressure,
• stabilizes bullet exit,
• improves accuracy during strings of fire with subsonic ammunition.

Important!

The Titan XL is intended for use exclusively with:

• rubber obturators,
• subsonic 7.62×39 US ammunition (57-N-231U).

Standard (supersonic) 7.62×39 ammunition is not intended for use with this PBS.

Every Titan XL modification comes with a standard civilian 40×18 obturator included.
The mil-spec version simply allows the use of standard military obturators with a metal reinforcement ring, but the included obturator is always the civilian version.

The service life of a single obturator is up to 90 rounds of subsonic US ammunition.
